Subject: | Brownfields Pilot Grant Application Deadline is March 23, 1998 |
This is a reminder that the deadline for new applications for EPA's 1998 Brownfields Assessment Demonstration Pilots is March 23, 1998. Original notice posted in Federal Register: October 9, 1997 (Volume 62, Number 196)] [Notices] [Page 52720-52721] As a part of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) Brownfields Economic Redevelopment Initiative, the Brownfields Assessment Demonstration Pilots, which are each funded up to $200,000 over two years, are designed to empower States, communities, Tribes, and other stakeholders in economic redevelopment to work together in a timely manner to prevent, assess, safely clean up, and sustainably reuse brownfields. Brownfields Assessment Demonstration Pilots test redevelopment models, direct special efforts toward removing regulatory barriers without sacrificing protectiveness, and facilitate coordinated environmental assessments and cleanup efforts at the federal, state, tribal and local levels. The funds granted are used to generate interest by pulling together community groups, investors, lenders, developers and other affected parties to address the issue of cleaning up sites contaminated with hazardous substances and returning them to appropriate productive use. To date, the Agency has funded 121 Brownfields Assessment Demonstration Pilots. EPA expects to select approximately 100 additional Pilots in 1998. The Brownfields Assessment Demonstration Pilots are administered on a competitive basis. To ensure a fair selection process, evaluation panels consisting of EPA Regional and Headquarters staff and other federal agency representatives will assess how well the proposals meet the selection criteria outlined in the revised application booklet, "The Brownfields Economic Redevelopment Initiative: Proposal Guidelines for Brownfields Assessment Demonstration Pilots." Brownfields application information can be obtained through the Internet at: http://www.epa.gov/swerosps/bf/applicat.htm Copies of the application package and the solicitation notice may also be obtained by calling the RCRA/Superfund Hotline at 1-800-424-9346 or (703) 412 9810.
