Senators Announce Brownfields Bill

 WASHINGTON (AP) - After months of wrangling, a bipartisan group of
senators has developed a plan to turn abandoned industrial lots known as
``brownfields'' into space for condominiums, malls and playgrounds.

 The newly introduced bill would authorize $150 million per year for fiscal
years 2001 to 2005 for grants to local governments to assess and clean up
the sites.
