submitted by Bridget L. Thorsen, National Association of Local Government Environmental Professionals (NALGEP) <bridget.thorsen@spiegelmcd.com> Brownfields Opportunities for Western Communities June 4, 2002 -- Salt Lake City, UT View the agenda and register online at http://www.nalgep.org Join Utah Governor Mike Leavitt and national brownfields experts to identify tools and opportunities to reclaim brownfields, and unlock economic prosperity in your community. Join Us To: * Learn about the new federal brownfields law; * Identify available state and federal brownfield resources and funding; * Learn from successful community brownfields programs; and * Develop strategies to overcome brownfields barriers. Historically, local governments, developers, and lenders have avoided involvement in properties with environmental contamination, or "brownfields," due to fears of uncertain cleanup costs and the risk of liability for contamination they did not create. However, many communities have begun to address these concerns and seize the emerging opportunity of brownfields redevelopment as a tool for local economic renewal. Redeveloping brownfields provides many benefits including: expediting the cleanup of contaminated sites; renewing local economies by stimulating redevelopment, creating jobs and enhancing the vitality of communities; and limiting sprawl and its associated environmental problems. Who Should Attend? * Local Government Officials * Developers * Land Owners * Bankers and Lenders * Community Leaders * Attorneys and Consultants View the agenda and registration information at http://www.nalgep.org.
