Vapor cleanup going well in Martinsville By Amy Hillenburg Mooresville/Decatur Times (IN) February 16, 2005 After eight months of work, the cleanup of downtown buildings affected by perchloroethylene vapor intrusion is going better than anticipated, according to Fred W. Nichols, senior project manager with Astbury Environmental Engineering Inc. The company was hired to test and conduct a cleanup of PCE and TCE contaminated air that was detected in some of the buildings on the west side of the square. PCE and TCE are found in dry cleaning chemicals, The Environmental Protection Agency ordered Masterwear owner Jim Reed and his former landlord Bill Cure to submit a plan for cleanup of the vapor intrusion that was traced to the former commercial dry cleaning site. Last year both Reed and Cure agreed in a letter to the EPA to take responsibility for the pollution and the cost of the cleanup. ...
