Freon 113 found at former IBM site Chemical can cause neurological damage BY TOM WILBER Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin (NY) March 17, 2005 UNION -- Scientists have found traces of Freon 113 flowing from under the former IBM campus on North Street, adding to a cocktail of pollutants threatening property to the south. IBM Corp. has agreed to a mandate from the state Department of Environmental Conservation to investigate the chemical tainting soil and water near buildings 57 and 57A on the east end of the sprawling microelectronics campus, now owned by Huron Real Estate Associates. Freon 113 was once stored in an 8,000-gallon tank on the site, according to DEC records. ...
