GRADUATE STUDENT ASSISTANT - ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE RESEARCH REVIEW

The Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, in the California
Environmental Protection Agency (OEHHA, Cal/EPA), located in downtown
Oakland (near the City Center/12th Street BART station), is evaluating the
application of environmental justice approaches to hazard identification and
risk assessment of chemicals in the environment. This project's goal is to
obtain a comprehensive understanding of the extent of the available
scientific literature on relevant environmental justice issues. The Graduate
Student Assistant will be responsible for conducting literature searches and
obtaining scientific, toxicological and epidemiological articles pertaining
to this project, abstracting information from these studies, and
contributing to the preparation of a scientific paper for publication.
Current needs are to provide literature search, review and summary of
available information. The project requires 10-20 hours/week, starting
immediately, with the possibility for full time work (40 hours/week) in the
summer if desired. Salary range is $12.75 to $14.50/hour, depending on
qualifications. Candidates should have experience in conducting scientific
literature searches (library and online). A background in public health,
toxicology, epidemiology, or related fields is desirable, as is a
familiarity with the issues related to environmental justice. Applicants
must be currently enrolled as students at the undergraduate or graduate
level (preferred). Please send your resume and a sample of your writing
(preferably with literature citations) to adunn@oehha.ca.gov or by mail to
Amy Dunn, RCHAS/OEHHA, 1515 Clay Street, 16th Floor, Oakland, CA 94612. If
you have questions, please e-mail or call Amy Dunn at (510) 622-3183.
