Emerson admits cleanup falters Effort fails to remove most suspected carcinogens from Ithaca site JENNIE DALEY Ithaca Journal May 14, 2005 ITHACA -- While meeting clean-up requirements, the current remediation plan at Emerson Power Transmission is not the most effective at removing contamination, according to a letter from the company to state officials. "The treatment system has not removed the mass of contamination as expected," Emerson spokeswoman Emily Tzinger said Friday. "We have provided a work plan to the state that was discussed in a meeting (Wednesday) that should allow us to make system modifications that will more effectively remove contamination," Tzinger said. Tests show groundwater monitoring wells have levels of trichloroethene, also known as TCE, as high as 43,000 micrograms per liter. The Environmental Protection Agency's limit for TCE in drinking water is 5,000 micrograms per liter. ...
