An Announcement for Free Grant Training Workshops

National Brownfields Program
Competitive Site Assessment and Site Cleanup Grants

Hosted by:

The US Environmental Protection Agency
and
The Nevada Division of Environmental Protection

The Brownfields Program was created by the US Environmental Protection Agency to help communities deal with abandoned or idle properties where environmental contamination may be presenting an obstacle to reuse or redevelopment of the land. The program focuses on sites where either real or perceived contamination by hazardous substances or petroleum products from past site uses serves to limit reinvestment or development interest.

Grants are available through a competitive process to eligible entities including local government agencies, quasi-municipal entities (including General Improvement Districts and Redevelopment Agencies), and non-profit groups. Grants are made available for the following activities:

* Community-wide Assessment
* Site-Specific Assessment
* Site-Specific Cleanup Grants

The Grant Training Workshops are being held to help eligible entities prepare the competitive grants in accordance with the grant guidelines published by the US EPA. This will include a discussion of eligibility criteria for applicants and sites, application formatting, scoring criteria, and important points of emphasis. The grant guidelines will be presented by a member of the US EPA Region IX Brownfields Team.
