Makeovers planned for two of city's eyesores Former newspaper building, sugar beet factory to be cleaned up and renovated by developers By Mitch Hotts Macomb Daily (MI) January 3, 2006 A pair of longstanding eyesores in Mount Clemens -- one in the city's downtown section and one on the edge of town -- are scheduled to receive massive makeovers that city officials hope will help revive the business climate. Developers for the former Macomb Daily building on Cass Avenue in the city's core area have received a special designation that will freeze their taxes for the next 12 years, giving them breathing room to launch a multimillion-dollar renovation. Also, the city has approved a brownfield redevelopment plan for a former sugar beet factory on North River Road near Interstate 94 that may eventually become a shopping center coupled with a restaurant. ...
