Wabash cited for leadership on brownfields

The fact that Wabash possesses a lot of Brownfield sites is not a good
thing.

The fact that Wabash officials, beginning with former Mayor Arvin
Copeland, recognized the problem and did something about it was a good
thing.

And, today, because of its aggressive approach to tackling the numerous
contaminated properties around the city, Wabash is recognized as a
leader among Indiana cities and is a showplace for city and state
officials wanting to understand what the Brownfield program is all about.

Case in point: When the new administration of Gov. Mitch Daniels took
over last year and began its evaluation of every department of state
government, the Brownfield program was looked at closely and changes
were made in the organization - both in policy and personnel.
