Salem makes case to designate site as Brownfields By ROBERT LINNEHAN Salem Sunbeam (NJ) March 10, 2006 SALEM -- City of Salem officials held a meeting Wednesday night to discuss the details and benefits of their desire to apply for designation of parts of the Salem industrial area near the port as a Brownfield Development Area. Laura J. Dodge, president of Excel Environmental Resources, Inc., Salem's partner in applying for the BDA designation, gave a presentation detailing the benefits of the proposed BDA to a group of concerned citizens and business owners. ... Dodge reported the city will focus mainly on the "gateway" of Salem city, namely the area of Route 49 coming into the city. The abandoned H.J. Heinz plant, the abandoned oil tanks, and land owned by Anchor Glass will all be included in the proposed BDA. ...
