you want a formatted version. - LS]Brownfields and Environmental Cleanup: An Introductory Community Workshop Saturday, May 20, 2006 9:00 am to 3:00 pm 5058 W. Main Street, Houma, Louisiana Sponsored by: the Center for Public Environmental Oversight (CPEO) and the South Central Planning & Development Commission (SCPDC) Co-sponsored by: Materials Management Group, Inc. (MMG) Brownfields are abandoned, idled, or under-used industrial and commercial facilities where expansion or redevelopment is complicated by real or perceived environmental contamination. Brownfields are properties that are contaminated or which might be contaminated. Preparing them for redevelopment is challenging, both legally and technically. But the people who live, work, study, or recreate on or near Brownfields have a key role to play in cleanup and development decisions. This workshop, initiated by CPEO-which conducts similar workshops across the United States-is designed to help residents of South Central Louisiana influence Brownfields projects to better protect public health and redevelop impaired property. Introduction: "Six Blind Men" and Brownfields: Lenny Siegel, CPEO The Fundamentals of Risk: speaker from Louisiana Risk Evaluation/Corrective Action Program (RECAP) Environmental Exposures in Louisiana: Wilma Subra, New Iberia, Louisiana Environmental Site Assessments: David Lourie, PE, Lourie Consultants.
