New pollution testing starts in Endicott Latest drilling, sampling extends into Town of Union By Tom Wilber Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin (NY) April 19, 2006 Scientists using state Superfund money began a new round of drilling and sampling this week in the Town of Union and the village of Endicott as they started the latest phase of a multimillion-dollar search for trichloroethylene pollution. The search, which began in 2003 after the chemical was found entering properties south of the former IBM Corp. plant on North Street, has extended to an area encompassing several square miles with hot spots possibly tainted by various sources. Its approximate boundaries are the Susquehanna River to the south, Pine Street to the north, Duane Avenue to the west, and Harding and Nebraska avenues to the east. ...
