'Brownfields' grant to aid school siting

WOONSOCKET -- Through its second federal re-development grant recently
awarded, city officials anticipate using funds to better evaluate several
potential sites to replace the middle school.
Sen. Lincoln Chafee on Friday issued a $200,000 U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency "brownfields" grant to Woonsocket to help assess
contaminated sites for future cleanups and re-use.

It was part of $1.4 million for assessment and cleanups for Woonsocket and
Burrillville, and the bulk of the funding for five Providence projects.

"I am looking forward to seeing these properties cleaned up and restored to
safe and productive use," said Chafee making the awards. City Planner
Catherine Ady, who wrote the grant, attended the ceremony to receive it.
