County agency to pay for study Former city dump examined for a cleanup By Vanessa McCray Traverse City Record Eagle (MI) May 25, 2006 TRAVERSE CITY - The Grand Traverse County Brownfield Redevelopment Authority will pay the city's bill for a preliminary groundwater study at a former city dump. The Boot Lake site on Cass Road was used by Traverse City as a landfill in the 1960s and is now privately owned. The city agreed to a request by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality to identify contamination at the spot and fix it. One of the city's first steps is to conduct a groundwater study to determine what contamination, if any, is at the site and in nearby Boardman Lake. ...
