CITY OF TIFFIN AWARDED $750,000 IN CLEAN OHIO FUNDSFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Ohio Department of development July 24, 2006 Columbus, OH -- Lieutenant Governor Bruce Johnson today announced that the City of Tiffin will receive a $750,000 Clean Ohio Assistance Fund (COAF) for soil remediation and demolition activities at the former Tiffin Glasshouse Company, located at 249 Vine St., to prepare the property for the expansion of the Tiffin Paper Company. "The COAF is an important tool to assist cities in transforming brownfield sites into viable locations for the expansion of prospering businesses," said Johnson, who also serves as state development director. "I'm confident that this funding will be beneficial in enabling this successful company to grow and create good jobs and help stimulate the regional economy." Located northwest of downtown Tiffin, the four-acre property has been used for industrial purposes since the 1800s. The funding will be used for the remediation of polluted soil and the removal of dilapidated structures that will allow the Tiffin Paper Company, which borders the property on the north, to expand onto the site. Tiffin Paper Company is a wholesale distributor of paper and concession food products and is committed to expanding onto the property once the clean up and remediation are complete. The company plans to construct a 37,000 square-foot addition to its current facility and create 25 to 30 new jobs at the site. Approved by the state Controlling Board today, the funds were awarded from the $10 million COAF. The funds must be used for Phase I and Phase II Environmental assessment, brownfield redevelopment or public health projects. Areas eligible for funding include: situational distressed, inner distressed, distressed or labor surplus cities and are evaluated by the economic benefit; environmental improvement, including public health benefit; appropriateness and reasonableness of the prospected project and the financial condition of the community. -30- For the original press release, go to http://www.odod.state.oh.us/newsroom/releases/1622.asp --
