Wisbusiness.com press releasesGov. Doyle: Annouces Brownfield Grant for Town of Windsor July 26, 2006 MADISON - Governor Jim Doyle today announced a $100,000 grant from the Department of Commerce (Commerce) Blight Elimination and Brownfield Redevelopment (BEBR) program to the Town of Windsor to assist Sanderson Properties Partnership in the redevelopment of six blighted downtown area buildings. "By returning these properties to productivity and investing in infrastructure - we will strengthen this community and bring new life to the downtown," Governor Doyle said. "I am pleased to help the Town of Windsor make this investment in the future of their community." Rehabilitation of the property will include demolition of three existing buildings, remediation of contaminated soil, building remodeling and construction of two new multi-unit buildings. Other site work will include landscaping, lighting, utility upgrades, and extensive interior and exterior improvements. The redevelopment will result in a total of 12 businesses housed in five buildings. Total projected costs are $1,163,535. The project will create six new jobs. The Sanderson Property Partnership is a jointly owned entity that concentrates on purchasing distressed properties for renovation and management. Recent projects have included a three-unit home on campus renovated for student housing and the renovation of a single-family home in Madison. Commerce's BEBR Program provides grant funds to municipalities, local development corporations, and the private sector to support assessment, remediation and return of contaminated lands to productive use. Brownfields are abandoned, idle, or underused industrial or commercial properties where redevelopment is hindered by real or perceived contamination.
