Gilbert mill site rehab hits delay Asbestos, financing problems stall brownfield application By Michael King Appleton Post-Crescent (WI) August 6, 2006 MENASHA — An application for an $888,950 state brownfield grant to help raze and redevelop the former Gilbert Paper mill is on hold pending resolution of financing and asbestos removal issues. Jason Scott, brownfields development consultant with the state Department of Commerce, said Thursday the application submitted by the city and Stadtmueller & Associates, the Gilbert property developer, will be re-evaluated once additional progress is made to obtain traditional financing for the project. The asbestos issue arose July 14 when the property owner stopped salvage operations at the site after an inspection by the state Department of Natural Resources prompted by an anonymous complaint. ...
