Pataki rejects alerts for TCE Bill designed to help renters By Tom Wilber Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin (NY) August 18, 2006 A bill that would require landlords to notify tenants of pollution problems that affect rental properties is overly broad and ineffective, Gov. George E. Pataki stated in a veto message, sending the Southern Tier bill authors back to the drawing board. Assemblywoman Donna A. Lupardo, D-Endwell, and Sen. Thomas W. Libous, R-Binghamton, said Thursday they were disappointed with the veto but remained confident the legislation would eventually become law. ... Pataki stated a requirement for landlords to notify tenants of past environmental issues, even if they had been addressed years or decades before, was "overly broad." Further, he said, providing data about pollution to tenants "is of questionable value in the absence of information to explain the implications." ...
