DEP blasted for inaction at toxic site Officials accuse agency of putting Hamilton residents' health at risk
HAMILTON -- State and local officials yesterday joined in a chorus of criticism for the state's handling of allegations that Sayen Gardens was for years a dump for waste from the former Mercer Rubber factory. In a letter to state Department of Environmental Protection Administrator Lisa Jackson, Sen. Peter Inverso and Assemblyman Bill Baroni, both Republicans from Hamilton, accused the agency of failing to protect the public and demanded that Jackson conduct an internal review to determine who is to blame. "The lack of action by the department is inexcusable," the letter to Jackson said. "The DEP appears to have failed to do the job it is entrusted to perform and, worse yet, put the health of thousands of Hamilton residents at risk." ...
