Springfield eyes J&L building for policeby Susan Smallheer Rutland Herald (VT) September 26, 2006 SPRINGFIELD — The Springfield Select Board has found a new home for the police department. The Select Board voted unanimously Monday to ask voters to buy the Lucas Industries building on Clinton Street for $825,000. The purchase would be part of a $2.2 million bond issue that would include renovations to the white brick building, as well as renovations to the Springfield Town Hall. ... The sale is contingent on the Lucas site getting a clean bill of environmental health. There is concern about contamination from previous owners, Chairwoman Mary Helen Hawthorne said. ...
