Ruins of old Bondsville Mill may be incorporated into parkBy Anne Pickering Chester Daily Local (PA) October 28, 2006 EAST BRANDYWINE --- A storied part of East Brandywine's past may be literally rising from the ruins as the township embarks on a path to study how to convert the old Bondsville Mill site into a park. "We're all really excited about the opportunity for a new park on a site of historical significance," said Mary Beth Smedley, township secretary and treasurer. The mill operated for 110 years, making everything from woolens in 1841 to plush linings for U.S. Air Force jackets during World War II, and permanently closed in 1954. Since then, the buildings along Beaver Creek have fallen victim to the weather and gradually lost roofs, walls and floors. They are mostly visited by squirrels and neighborhood youth. But all that is soon to change. In the spring the township appointed a committee to study creative use of the site. Committee members visited the property in September and recommended that the buildings on the far west end and the far east end be looked at by engineers as possible candidates for protection from further deterioration. ...
