Governor's office clears Petoskey Pointe tax credits

Based on a recent Michigan Economic Development Corp. review, Gov. 
Jennifer Granholm's office has concluded that the economic development 
agency followed appropriate steps in deciding to award a $4.5 million 
business tax credit for downtown Petoskey’s Petoskey Pointe project 
earlier this year.

"We are satisfied with the MEDC review, that there were no violations of 
statutes or policies or procedures," Granholm spokeswoman Liz Boyd said 
Wednesday. "We're satisfied that the review was thorough and the process 
worked as it was supposed to under current procedures."

In September, Granholm's office called for MEDC to review procedures 
used in its decision to provide Farmington Hills-based Lake Street 
Petoskey Associates, Petoskey Pointe’s developers, with a Single 
Business Tax Credit for brownfield redevelopment.
