Iveory Perkins and Christine Ferretti The Detroit News January 6, 2007WESTLAND -- The city's new mayor has ordered city crews to fence Central City Park and close it to the public, following a scare about high levels of lead in the popular meeting place. One day after taking office, Mayor William Wild announced Friday that his first order of business was erecting a 4-foot-tall fence around the perimeter of the 100-acre park owned by Wayne County. It was closed in November, but a walkway around it was open. The move followed word from state regulators that further soil tests are necessary to isolate the lead. ...
