Plenty of questions about cleanup of Bishop Tube By Anne Pickering Exton Suburban Advertiser (PA) February 8, 2007EAST WHITELAND -- State environmental officials fielded questions from residents during a public hearing Wednesday regarding the proposed cleanup of the Bishop Tube site on Malin Road. About 45 people attended the hearing, including former employees of Bishop Tube and residents of nearby homes in General Warren Village and Whiteland Farms north of Business Route 30. In 2001, the Chester County Industrial Development Authority wanted to acquire the property, which had been vacant since 1999. The CCIDA asked the township and school district to forgive outstanding taxes to help in the purchase. The Board of Supervisors didn't want the site sold at a sheriff's sale to someone who might not clean up the site, said Woodman, which was one reason why it supported CCIDA's proposal. Woodman said she thought it was common knowledge among residents of General Warren Village that the site was contaminated. ...
