City ponders clinic rehab By WENDY LEDBETTER Hope Star (AR) April 4, 2007City officials are hoping to reclaim a piece of property in downtown Hope with the help of a state grant. The issue was among the topics discussed at Tuesday's meeting of the Hope City Board of Directors. The Environmental Protection Agency began the "brownfield" program in 1995. The goal was to help communities reclaim property that might otherwise lay dormant because of pollutants and contamination. The program is locally overseen by the Arkansas Department of Environmental Quality. At Tuesday's meeting, Hope City Manager Catherine Cook told directors that the ADEQ has completed its assessment of a local property. The Martindale Clinic was a thriving medical practice until the 1970s, Cook said. She said that the owner simply walked out one day, locking the doors behind him. ...
