Franklin to oversee problem sites By MEG HUELSMAN South Jersey Courier-Post (NJ) April 4, 2007FRANKLIN - Nearly nine months after a Station Road day care center that showed elevated levels of mercury contamination closed its doors, the township committee is taking steps to make sure the Kiddie Kollege nightmare does not happen again. A seven-member subcommittee of the township Environmental Commission has been created to keep tabs on contaminated or potentially hazardous properties. The committee will oversee contaminated sites, keep records and look into any suspicious properties. There are also plans to hire a township patrolman to head the newly formed office of emergency management. The officer would be responsible for maintaining records of contaminated sites and informing different departments about questionable properties. The new officer should start this summer, Deputy Mayor Frank Scavelli said Tuesday. ...
