Preschool site sparks questions By Shelli DeRobertis Inland Valley Daily Bulletin April 9, 2007CHINO - Parents are questioning the safety of a proposed county preschool that will be built on land that once contained arsenic and lead. "I wouldn't trust it," said Stephanie Rodriguez, mother of a preschooler. "Even if they cleaned it up and tested it, I still wouldn't send my kids there." The San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools purchased 4.4 acres of land at 4562 and 4578 Philadelphia St. to build a preschool. An environmental investigation of the site found arsenic and lead present in the soil at levels higher than acceptable for human health. The Department of Toxic Substances Control must now approve the removal of about 450 tons of arsenic-contaminated soil and nearly 45 tons of lead-contaminated soil before construction on the site can begin. ...
