City a leader in brownfield redevelopment: Gerretsen Kevin Lajoie Cornwall Standard Freeholder (ONT) April 20, 2007Cornwall is one of the leaders in Ontario when it comes to redeveloping brownfield sites, the province's municipal affairs minister said Thursday. "What's been done here so far is marvelous," said John Gerretsen, following a tour of the old cotton mills area in the city's east end during a visit to Cornwall. The minister got a first-hand look at the work that's taken place over the last several years to redevelop the former industrial area, which at one time employed some 3,000 workers. He also got to hear about future plans for some of the historic buildings, the biggest being a plan to turn the old finishing mill building at the corner of Cotton Mill Street and McConnell Avenue into a 67-unit loft complex. After viewing the area from the outside, Gerretsen walked through the Weave Shed building which is now home to Corus Entertainment, the Cornwall Public Inquiry and several other organizations. ...
