Victor cancer data sought State to ask residents in suspect area for further reports tonight Steve Orr Rochester Democrat and Chronicle (NY) April 26, 2007The state Department of Health, weighing a request that it conduct a cancer cluster study in a part of Victor beset with contaminated groundwater, will ask residents at a meeting in the town tonight to report more cancer cases. The request for a cancer study, passed on to Albany last week by state Sen. Michael Nozzolio, originated with a Victor citizens group that is pressing for more answers on the health impact of the contamination. The group's agenda also includes a better explanation of the results of recent testing for the presence of toxic vapors in Victor homes. State officials say that only two of the first 24 homes tested had enough vapor penetration to merit the installation of special ventilation systems. The overall results, though, show the presence of at least trace levels of toxic vapors in the soil beneath almost all the homes that were checked — which prompted one resident to say that more ventilation systems are needed. ...
