Subject: | [CPEO-BIF] Colorado BF Foundation to redevelop former meth labs |
Foundation looking to buy former meth labs KUSA - With potential contamination from carcinogens and explosive chemicals, to most people, a former methamphetamine lab would sound like a less than desirable real estate venture. For Jesse Silverstein, he gets excited, so to speak. "In a strange way, yes, I see an opportunity to improve a neighborhood," Silverstein said. Silverstein is the executive director of the Colorado Brownfields Foundation. It is a non-profit organization that seeks to redevelop brownfields, which it defines as a site that is complicated by hazardous substances, pollutants or environmental contaminants. Houses that once served as meth labs are included in the properties the foundation is targeting for redevelopment. Silverstein says these homes often are left to rot and become blighted properties. ...One of the goals for the Colorado Brownfields Foundation is to take over former meth labs, thoroughly clean them and then place them back on the market as deed restricted lower income housing.
