Wood-Ridge housing plan sued

A proposed residential neighborhood on the former Curtiss-Wright brownfields site
needs dozens more low-income units, a housing advocacy group claims.

In a lawsuit filed in Superior Court in Hackensack last week, Fair Share Housing
Center claimed that the Borough of Wood-Ridge was not fulfilling its
affordable-housing obligation. It asked the court to halt construction and sales.

Construction has yet to begin on the parcel, where Curtiss-Wright built aircraft
engines during World War II and left tens of thousands of gallons of buried fuels
and degreasers that have tainted the groundwater and soil. The Record reported in
May that the state Department of Environmental Protection continues to have
questions about the site.
