High School fears building being torn down next-door will spread its toxins BY DAN GESSLEIN New York Daily News September 4, 2007Students returning to class at the Soundview Academy will be learning their Bronx ABC's: asbestos, benzene and carcinogens. The former defense contractor plant next-door to the high school is being torn down, and residents are fearful of what is being released into the air. For the past two weeks, Soundview residents have been watching and videotaping workers in protective suits and respirators tearing apart the roof of the former Loral Electronics manufacturing building, at 825 Bronx River Ave., in the middle of the night - with little evidence of environmental precautions. ...
