2 industrial eyesores' days may be numbered Endicott Forging, Ozalid buildings may be razed By Eric Reinagel Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin (NY) September 10, 2007UNION -- At least two industrial eyesores in Endicott and Johnson City are being targeted for demolition if state grants are secured. Johnson City would like to use a Restore NY grant to demolish the former Ozalid Corp. building at 46 Corliss Ave. Endicott's mayor would like to use the program to demolish the former Endicott Forging facility on North Street. Union also is applying for the grant in conjunction with Johnson City, but hasn't decided which building or buildings would be demolished. Both the Endicott and Johnson City factories have become massive eyesores, as well as magnets for vandals, drug dealers and homeless people, officials said. Furthermore, both buildings could be seized by Broome County for back taxes, but the county doesn't want the responsibility of any environmental cleanup that the properties may need, said Broome County's chief planner, Frank Evangelisti. ...
