Florence takes step toward cleaning former recycling site Monday, Oct 08, 2007 SC News By Charles Tomlinson FLORENCE, SC ? Florence City Council on Monday approved its first vote on a loan to fund the environmental cleanup of the former Bush Recycling Center on North Irby Street. The former recycling center is a key site in the city?s master plan. The ordinance to accept $625,000 from the S.C. Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund must pass a second reading next month...?Funding is unique in that a portion ... will be forgiven over the 10-year life of the loan,? City Manager David Williams told the council. ...The city had been waiting for the EPA to specify the level of cleanup needed for developments such as a building or a park at the site, Willis said. Some people have told city officials they would like to place a baseball field or a community center on the property, he said.
