Board OKs Johnson City Wal-Mart site plan State agency must still approve cleanup proposal By Eric Reinagel Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin (NY) October 24, 2007JOHNSON CITY -- Village approvals for the controversial Wal-Mart project on Lester Avenue are all but complete, although a state agency has yet to approve a cleanup plan for the brownfield site where the store would be built. The Johnson City Planning Board approved the Vestal-based Newman Development Group's final site plan on Tuesday for the 132,000-square-foot Wal-Mart Supercenter at 14 Lester Ave., the former Endicott Johnson Ranger Paracord site. Only 28 people attended the Tuesday meeting, and the board's action drew applause. Five people spoke against the project, citing concerns about traffic, flooding and a negative economic impact on village businesses. ...
