County pursuing its own brownfield authority BY PETER DAINING Grand Haven Tribune (MI) February 7, 2008 Ottawa County is looking into starting its own brownfield redevelopment authority, which would be able to cover every township and city in the county. Brownfield authorities make it possible to turn unused industrial and commercial sites that may have hazardous waste into something more useful. They can help reimburse the costs of redevelopment through tax increment financing and provide tax credits for investors. "It makes it much more likely that you're going to reclaim brownfield property for redevelopment," County Administrator Al Vanderberg explained. "For those that don't have the expertise on staff or the time allocated, it could be a more efficient way for some local (governments)." ...
