Menasha to seek grant for Gilbert site

Idea of whitewater park gets attention at council meeting

MENASHA - City efforts to secure a brownfield grant of at least $500,000 
to aid demolition of the former Gilbert Paper Co. site got a boost 
Monday night.

On a 7-1 vote, the Common Council authorized pursuit of a matching 
$25,000 planning grant, a move encouraged by state Department of 
Commerce officials after the city's $875,000 brownfield grant 
application was not chosen for funding last year.

Brownfields are abandoned, idle or underused industrial or commercial 
properties where redevelopment is hindered by real or perceived 
contamination.
