Menasha to seek grant for Gilbert site Idea of whitewater park gets attention at council meeting By Michael King Appleton Post-Crescent (WI) February 19, 2008 MENASHA - City efforts to secure a brownfield grant of at least $500,000 to aid demolition of the former Gilbert Paper Co. site got a boost Monday night. On a 7-1 vote, the Common Council authorized pursuit of a matching $25,000 planning grant, a move encouraged by state Department of Commerce officials after the city's $875,000 brownfield grant application was not chosen for funding last year. Brownfields are abandoned, idle or underused industrial or commercial properties where redevelopment is hindered by real or perceived contamination. ...
