New life for old Alcoa plant site Kinsey Probasco Hayes to lead joint venture picked to develop 350-acre property By Lance Coleman, Blount Today Knoxville News Sentinel (TN) March 21, 2008 Alcoa Inc.'s old West Plant property off Hall Road in Alcoa will soon be developed by the Chattanooga company that redeveloped the Sunsphere and the World's Fair site in Knoxville. Alcoa Inc. signed a letter of intent Thursday with a joint venture led by Kinsey Probasco Hayes to develop land where the company's first plant was built in 1920. The other member of the joint venture is International Risk Group of Denver, Colo., which has considerable experience in "brownfield" redevelopment, said Alcoa Inc. spokeswoman Melissa Copelan. ... The site could be developed as retail and office space and possibly a hotel, one Alcoa city official said. The company stressed that development of the 350-acre West Plant site would have nothing to do with expanding the company's aluminum production facilities, Copelan said. ...
