Subject: | [CPEO-BIF] [Fwd: Course Announcement - Nuts & Bolts of Redeveloping Brownfields Properties for Local Government - Kansas City, Missouri - July 21-25, 2008] |
Many communities have been left with vacant contaminated land that blights local neighborhoods and undermines the local tax base. The Nuts & Bolts of Redeveloping Brownfields for Local Government training course addresses the issues and obstacles to redeveloping contaminated properties for productive reuse. Being held for the 4th consecutive year in Kansas City, Missouri, participants learn how many communities have overcome obstacles and stimulated successful redevelopment by characterizing and assembling parcels, cleaning up sites, and using public and private funds to attract redevelopment. This year's course is being hosted again by EPA Region 7, the Northeast-Midwest Institute, and Great Lakes Environmental Planning and will be held at the Discovery Center, located at 4750 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri, from July 21 through July 25. Participants will hear from experts on topical areas such as the economics of brownfield redevelopment, environmental site assessments, underground storage tanks, sustainable redevelopment, legal liabilities, public/private resources, among many others. A draft course agenda and course brochure are attached. The course fee is $395 per participant, which includes a continental breakfast and lunch. Limited need based scholarships are available. Registration is now open and available on-line at: http://www.delta-institute.org/gleplanning/nutsbolts.php Lodging for the course is available at the Q Hotel and Spa, Kansas City's only "green" hotel, located at 560 Westport Road, Kansas City, MO 64111. Phone number 800-942-4233. A $98/night, single room, nonsmoking rate is being made available for participants. Please reference the course name when making reservations to obtain the group rate. Please let me know if you have any questions concerning this opportunity. Thanks.
