$500,000 grant to aid remediation for Jeannette housing project By Paul Paterra PITTSBURGH TRIBUNE-REVIEW (PA) May 10, 2008A nearly $500,000 grant will be used to help Jeannette clean two blocks of dirt likely contaminated by years of industry in the city. The soil in the South Sixth Street Revitalization Project must be remediated after buildings are razed and before 25 single-family homes and 18 townhouses are built between Bullitt Avenue to Cassatt Avenue. Diana Reitz, Jeannette's community development director, said the $480,000 in Brownfield Economic Development Initiative funds awarded last week will also help to move utility lines. "A lot of times with old industrial sites, any properties within close proximity end up having soil contamination. When you're in close proximity to an old glass factory, you're going to run into it," Reitz said. ...
