White Plains Courtyard gets top cleanup rating

New York Daily News

How do you turn something useless into something priceless?

Clean up a contaminated "brownfield" site, and build badly needed affordable housing.

That's what happened at White Plains Courtyard, a $27 million apartment complex development by The Arker Companies, which has erected 100 units of affordable housing on a Bronx brownfield site.

State environmental officials have certified White Plains Courtyard with the top "Track 1" cleanup ranking, meaning it has met the most stringent environmental standards set by the state's Brownfield Cleanup Program, and qualifying it for "unrestricted use."

The formerly contaminated site at 2060 White Plains Road in Morris Park had been occupied by a gas station.
