Subject: [CPEO-BIF] Board rejects Kimberton school plan, Pennsylvania
[The rejected school site is adjacent to a Superfund site, and there is significant deep-aquifer TCE contamination, but there is no evident pathway. I personally evaluated the vapor intrusion study, and if the data is correct there is no current potential for vapor intrusion. Furthermore, U.S. EPA has concluded that the future conditions will not create such a pathway. Still, parents and teachers successfully urged the school board to reject the site. - LS]

Chesco board KOs Kimberton school near Superfund site

Philadelphia Daily News
June 20, 2008

The Phoenixville Area School Board has decided that building a grade school next to a Superfund waste site isn't such a great idea after all.

It voted last night to abandon the Chester County school district's controversial plan to build the 650-student elementary school next to the federal hazardous-waste site.

By a 6-2 tally, the board adopted a last-minute resolution to reject all construction bids for the $19 million Kimberton Elementary School and to search for greener - and cleaner - pastures.
