Brownfield advocates lobby Albany by David Bertola Business First of Buffalo (NY) January 26, 2009 The Niagara Greenspace Consortium is taking its plans for brownfield remediation to Albany. The consortium focuses on acres of dormant property in Buffalo Niagara and designated as brownfields by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. On Feb. 2, Consortium Board President Phil Wilcox will be meeting with New York State Department of Environmental Conservation Commissioner Pete Grannis to discuss the plan. The genesis of it, Wilcox said, was partially based on Gov. Paterson?s executive order to develop an energy plan and from a challenge posed by Empire State Development Chair Robert Wilmers, who cited a lack of shovel-ready sites available for development in the Niagara Region. Wilcox is targeting $10 million to raise annually to apply toward remediation. He said his plan overlays nicely with the energy portion of the Buffalo Niagara Partnership?s 2009 Regional Agneda, and calls for working with environmental development agencies. ...
