Brownfield designation may lead to perks for Planar
Planar is planning a commercial park at the site of a former battery 
plant on 441.

A brownfield designation that could result in tax credits and other 
perks for a company planning a new commercial park at the site of the 
former battery plant on U.S. 441 near Alachua will be considered by the 
Alachua County Commission on April 28.

Commissioners on Tuesday agreed to hold the hearing at the request of 
the Phoenix Commercial Park. Managing partner Lisa Albertson wrote to 
County Manager Randall Reid that the firm hopes to add 150 to 200 
high-tech jobs, possibly within the next 12 months.

Planar Energy Devices, an Orlando company that makes and markets 
metallic-lithium solid-state battery products for electronic and 
automotive applications, has a contract to reopen the former battery 
plant, according to an e-mail from the company to County Commissioner 
Rodney Long.
