Contaminated Well Leaks Into Neighborhood

Residents near the old CTS plant got a scare after a contaminated well flowed into a neighborhood off Mills Gap Road.

The Environmental Protection Agency has said that the chemical, trichloroethylene, is in nearby wells. A neighborhood action team has been trying to get CTS to clean up its old property for years.

North Carolina regulators are proposing a voluntary cleanup agreement with the original polluter, but this is a site that should be on the Superfund National Priorities List.
