Traces of heavy metal found in Hillcrest By Tom Wilber Binghamton Press & Sun Bulletin May 10, 2009Traces of heavy metals exceeding state guidelines have been found at a defunct metal plating factory in Hillcrest, adding to pollution problems at the center of the small suburban neighborhood. Representatives of Triple Cities Metal Finishing are working on plans to clean metals from the ground at the former plant on Nowlan Road, company president Joe Morgan said last week. The pollution includes cadmium, chromium, lead and selenium detected in monitoring wells near the plant, according to data filed with the state Department of Environmental Conservation. The plume extends about 200 feet from the northwest corner of the property to Chenango Street. High concentrations have also been found in the soil on the site. ...
