Obama aide pledges to aid Ohio towns hurt by auto industry upheaval

An aide to President Barack Obama today pledged that the administration is committed to making sure that Ohio and communities in the state feeling the impact of the auto industry's restructuring will be able to take the fullest possible advantage of federal stimulus aid for retraining workers and rebuilding struggling manufacturers.

Ed Montgomery, whose title is director of recovery for auto communities and workers, will visit Toledo and Dayton tomorrow and Twinsburg on Friday - all communities that face the loss of a large number of auto worker jobs due to plant closings announced by General Motors Corp. and Chrysler LLC.

Mr. Montgomery will be accompanied by a team of administration officials, including representatives from the Small Business Administration, the Department of Commerce and the Department of Housing and Urban Development, to listen to the needs of the communities and to explain what kinds of aid are available.
