Subject: | [CPEO-BIF] Keith Middle School, etc., New Bedford, Massachusetts |
YOUR VIEW: Demand answers on contamination Letter by EDDIE L. JOHNSON CLEAN, the Citizens Leading Environmental Action Network New Bedford Standard-Times (MA) May 20, 2009On May 14, a motion on the New Bedford City Council agenda, sponsored by Councilor-at-large Brian Gomes and supported by all of the city councilors, which makes the motion veto-proof, requested that the Committee on Appointments and Briefings meet with Lawrence Oliveira, chief administrator for finance and operations for the School Department, and the contractor who is responsible for building Keith Middle School. The purpose of the meeting is to have the contractor explain falling mortar, cracks inside the building and water damage, and how they will be addressed. As active environmentalists deeply and consistently committed to the remediation and removal of all very unsafe and unhealthy toxic contamination at Keith Middle School, New Bedford High, six or more contaminated homes purchased by the city of New Bedford, the Paul Walsh Athletic Complex, Andre McCoy Sports Complex, church-owned properties of Bethel AME and the Portuguese Pentecostal Church on Hathaway Boulevard and other contaminated hot spots, we give sincere appreciation and applause to Councilor Gomes and his colleagues on the City Council who supported the motion. ...
