Ohio Grants $1.3M for Mahoningside Cleanup

WARREN, Ohio -- A six-acre brownfield in the downtown, the site of the old Mahoningside power plant, could be ready to market to industrial and commercial users as early as next year.

Final phases of environmental remediation will begin this year, reports Mike Keys, community development director, following receipt of $1.36 million from the Clean Ohio Revitalization Fund.

The grant, Keys says, will provide for the demolition of two small buildings still standing on the property, the sealing of pipes and tunnels once used in the generation of hydroelectric power, filling the gaping hole that remains following demolition of the main building, and capping the entire site with clean soil.
